Seven Essentials You Need On Your Office Desk

You can have a productive work day by just following these simple tips
Usually, we find ourselves looking around during the work day, be it for a tissue or a stapler. What we don’t realise is that if we have these essential supplies around us; it would make it easier for us to work and be more comfortable too. Without further ado, here are the seven essentials you need on your desk at all times:
1. Office supplies
No work area is complete without essential office supplies. Head to your supply room for pens, pencils, tape and tape dispenser, paper clips, calculator, folders, and memo pad. Keeping these close will keep the work day flowing
2. Dry erase board
Rather than relying on hundreds of Post-Its, use a dry erase board to jot down important thoughts and messages. This will save on paper and consolidate all memos.
3. Wall file organiser
Most cubicles in an office are cramped spaces that force employees to stuff documents in any available space they can find. A wall file organiser is a simple solution that makes finding and receiving papers headache-free. Hang one over your cubicle and fill it with files you are currently using.
4. Desk organiser
All cubicles should have a desk organiser. And if yours doesn’t have one, you need to get it soon. These organisers are mandatory as they have mini compartments to store loose items like pens and pencils, tape, and more.
5. Calendar
While Google Calendar and other apps provide us with the tools to stay organised, you should still have a physical calendar nearby in the event you can’t look at your computer or phone. Desks or wall-mounted calendars are non-obtrusive, but still in your presence so you won’t forget those important dates and events. Tip: When using a calendar that is in the open, don’t list anything you wouldn’t want your boss to know.
6. File cabinet
File cabinets are your saving grace against public displays of messiness. You need one to store your folders and important items that shouldn’t be left in the open. At minimum, your cabinet should have two drawers and be able to fit underneath your desk for safe keeping.
7. Light snacks
If your job requires you to sit at your desk all day long, then you will get hungry and you would definitely benefit from having some light snacks at hand, so you won’t be tempted by all the sugary treats around you. You could keep in your desk drawers a few bananas, a few apples, a bag of almonds or walnuts or some other healthy snacks that will provide your body with sustainable energy.

Change in the Workplace Stresses Your Employees Out Most

While employers usually enact change to improve the workplace, new research shows it can actually have the opposite effect. A study from the  American Psychological Association  (APA) found that organization changes, such as restructuring, budgetary modifications, new IT or human resources systems, or new leadership, can lead to employees who are overly stressed, have less trust in their employers and have a greater desire to find new jobs. Change is quite common in most workplaces. Half of the U.S. workers surveyed have been, currently are or expect to be affected by organizational changes in the next year. Employees impacted by change are more than twice as likely to suffer from chronic stress. Specifically, 55 percent of employees experiencing recent or current change reported prolonged stress, compared to just 22 percent of those who had no recent, current or anticipated change In addition, workers experiencing change were also four times as likely to have phy...
